I’m a Beyonce.
I’m not a religious person. I don’t read self help books. I am unconvinced that yoga can change my life. I am, however, completely, unabashedly, devoted to Beyonce.
Beyonce is a way of life. It’s the voice in the back of my head that says “I took a vow that from now on I’m gonna be my own best friend”. Beyonce is a feminist manifesto for the ages, backed up by a complete beauty, hard work, modern conceptions of healthy relationships, and absolute confidence. Beyonce has directly influenced three major parts of my life, and I will share those with you now.
Beyonce has been making her own money since she was fifteen. Sure, she has had a lot of help, but writing, singing, dancing basically 24/7 is no cakewalk. Plus she calls all the shots. As a woman who works hard for what she has, I completely understand what Beyonce says when she sings, “Get’n money, Divas get’n money” ,“It’s my name that’s on that jag, so move your bags and I’ll call you a cab” and “I even put money in the bank account, don’t have to ask no one to help me out”. Nothing feels quite as good as earning your own cash and not having to rely on a man (and being able to lose the man when he’s not good to you). Your mom should have been the first person to tell you that, but if not, Beyonce is there to remind you over and over again.
Just like your career, getting the love you deserve is a process. HOWEVER, Beyonce has no room for cheaters, liars, lazy boys, or any guy who is disrespectful or unappreciative (It’s not worth the drama for a beautiful liar). I mean, hello! You’re dating BEYONCE. Respect, please. Also, love should be fun – you should be able to laugh, get silly, and be interested in each other’s hustles (still love the way he talk, still love the way I sing, still love the way he rock them black diamonds and that chain” (obviously she and Jay are great at this one)). Love should also be passionate, sexual, and constantly moving forward and making you feel awesome (hit me like a ray of sun, burning through my darkest night – you’re the only one I want, and I’m addicted to your light). Beyonce never settles. She never let’s her man go unchecked. Also, she’s Sasha Fierce.

This is really the backbone of the entire Beyonce lifestyle. It doesn’t matter if you’re not perfect all the time, or if you and your boyfriend fight every now and again. You’re still the biggest champion of your own life. You still deserve respect, money, good sex, and great friends. Every girl has her shit days, but we all have to be able to put on our emotional Freakum Dresses and go to town on our hustle.
Every Beyonce song ever.
